Tonsillectomy and Adenoidectomy blades are surgical tools used in procedures to remove the tonsils and adenoids. These procedures are commonly performed to treat conditions such as sleep-disordered breathing, recurrent throat infections, and chronic ear or sinus infections. The PEAK PlasmaBlade TnA, manufactured by Medtronic, is a relatively new electrosurgical technology that is widely used in these surgeries. It offers the precision of a scalpel and hemostasis of traditional electrosurgery without extensive collateral tissue damage. However, a study from 2020 found that while the PlasmaBlade TnA has demonstrated utility in tonsillectomy with or without adenoidectomy, it is associated with adverse events, including device malfunctions and patient complications such as burn injuries.
