Climavent Heat and Moisture Exchangers (HME filters) are designed to warm and humidify the patients inspired gases. These filters retain some of the patients exhaled heat and moisture, which is then used to passively warm and humidify the air inhaled during the next breath. They are typically positioned at the patient end of a breathing system. Climavent offers various sizes to accommodate different patient needs.

Heat and moisture exchangers, like Climavent, play a crucial role in lung rehabilitation, particularly after a total laryngectomy. They help manage secretions and provide necessary humidification and suctioning for patients on mechanical ventilation. However, in cases of acute lung injury or acute respiratory distress syndrome, conventional humidifiers might be preferred over HMEs for better CO2 elimination.
