A non-rebreathing mask (NRB) is a medical device used to deliver high concentrations of oxygen, typically in emergency situations. It consists of a face mask that covers both the nose and mouth, connected to a reservoir bag filled with oxygen from an external tank. The mask has one-way valves to prevent exhaled air from re-entering the oxygen supply, ensuring the patient receives a high concentration of oxygen, usually between 60% to 91%. This device is used for conditions like traumatic injuries, smoke inhalation, and carbon monoxide poisoning, where rapid oxygen delivery is critical. However, close monitoring is necessary to ensure the oxygen supply does not run out while the mask is in use, as this could be life-threatening.
