The ThermoTrach„ HME Tracheostomy Filter is a lightweight Heat Moisture Exchanger (HME) designed for spontaneously breathing patients fitted with a tracheostomy tube. It captures heat and moisture on expiration and returns it to the patient during inspiration, which is ideal for patients with a tracheostomy tube. The filter includes an integrated self-sealing suction port that can be used to clear the airway by inserting a suction catheter. This port also acts as a vent that can open during vigorous coughing to allow thick mucosal secretions to be expelled, thus avoiding airway blockage. Additionally, supplementary oxygen can be provided through the ThermoTrach swivel oxygen connector, which can be angled for the most convenient and comfortable position, reducing the risk of disconnection, kinking, and drag against the patient. The white color of the HME media makes it easy for caregivers to see any contamination of the media and change it before a problem arises.
